The 'front-end' electronics are not compatible with the Blue Max coil series, to include: the 4" 'Snooper' coil ( Blue Max 350), the 6½" coils ( the Blue Max 600, 5.3 Black Max and 5.3 BullsEye), the 8" coils ( Blue Max 800, Pro Scan 800, Royal 800) or the 950 size Blue Max coils.

Therefore, the Classic II is limited to using the earlier 4-B type coil series and, for the most part, that limits it to the standard 8" coil it comes equipped with. The Classic II's standard coil is the 8" diameter concentric design that was developed prior to the Blue Max series of search coils. This permits the operator the ability to fine-tune the rejection of such problem trash as iron nails. The Discrimination level can adjust low enough to reject some iron, as well as accept some iron. I demonstrated for him why the other two were perfect 'back-up' units to the IDX Pro which was my #1 detector of choice for the wide variety of sites I hunt. I told him that it was mainly a White's XLT and XL Pro and an excellent modified IDX Pro. Several years ago I was visiting him as I passed through on vacation and he said he wanted a detector and asked what I was using.
I was the one who became avidly engaged in the metal detecting field, but Ed just liked to keep things simple. Unfortunately, he lived a long day's drive from me and we didn't get any late-in-life detecting in together, but I still have the wonderful memories of how I got hooked on this hobby. Ed was my only and older brother who passed away last June from cancer.
I have a White's Clasic ll metal detector, but don't know much about the IDX Pro.I also have a Classic II ( the SL or Slim-LIne version) that was my brother's detector.
